South East Queensland’s New Developments Are Making a Difference

South East Queensland’s new developments are making a positive difference to residents across the state, from luxury residential estates to major infrastructure projects, providing them with what they need and enjoying all the advantages that a growing economy brings.

With more people moving into Queensland than ever before, our state needs to find homes that meet both lifestyle and economic requirements. Under the Miles Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan, almost 500 affordable houses are being delivered across key growth areas in Brisbane and Logan – three-bedroom, two-bedroom, and 141 one-bedroom houses designed specifically to cater for individuals, couples and families on low and moderate incomes. They will be constructed at sites in Burpengary East, Jimboomba, Logan Reserve and Joyner and may feature dual key designs enabled by changes made in planning regulations regarding secondary dwellings.

The Miles Government’s Homes for Queenslanders program is part of its larger effort to accelerate housing supply across Queensland. This $2 billion package of funding aims at speeding up approvals and delivery times while encouraging infill development at targeted locations to make developers’ projects easier to launch. A State-Facitated Development team was recently created in order to expedite approvals, advance infill development projects quickly, prioritise affordable housing projects and administer an Inclusionary Planning Pilot program.

Our State-Facitated Development team is also working closely with local councils to identify “priority” growth areas that offer opportunities for sustainable expansion – for instance well-located land in urban areas – so that Queensland can expand in ways that are environmentally responsible, boost their economy and provide equitable opportunities to all Queenslanders.

At present, our region – consisting of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Redland Scenic Rim and Sunshine Coast local governments – is experiencing record net interstate migration levels and population growth trends that are consistent with long-term trends.

Unlocking more land to support this expansion enables the state to expand in a sustainable and resilient manner, with all new growth occurring in areas that offer access to jobs, services, amenities and which protect their natural environments.

This week, the Miles Government officially broke ground on 483 affordable homes in Waraba (formerly Caboolture West), as part of our Homes for Queenslanders program. Working alongside Tetris Capital to bring this project to fruition, construction will commence later this year with tenants expected to begin moving in by mid-2025.
